Although the first day of summer is not technically until the 21st of June, Phoenix is about to hit record level heat this coming weekend. With 120 degrees on the horizon for Father’s Day and the height of summer yet to come, how efficient your air conditioner is about to come into question. If you have lived in the Valley of the Sun for a decent period of time then chances are you have personally experienced or know someone who has had their air conditioning break down in the dead of summer. When that happens, the internal temperatures of the house can increase significantly due to deadly outside temperatures. Without relief from the heat your family’s health can suffer drastically. For those who live in the Valley it is important to be able to recognize the signs and symptoms of heat related illnesses.
Those who are at the highest risk of obtaining a heat related illness are young children, the elderly and those whom are weak from various illnesses. Because there are different types of heat related illnesses there are different ways to treat them. When it comes to heat exhaustion, headache, dizziness and weakness/ exhaustion, nausea, moist pale skin, and heat related cramps occur. However by replenishing liquids and getting into a cool environment the symptoms may be treated.
Heat stroke, which is the most life-threatening heat illness, mirrors the symptoms of heat exhaustion but also has additional symptoms. Heat stroke is when the body no longer sweats and is unable to cool itself so the internal body temperature reaches dangerously high levels. Some additional symptoms include, throbbing headache, vomiting, confusion, high body temperature, loss of consciousness, weak pulse, seizures and shallow breaking may occur. Heat stroke is a very serious illness that can lead to death, it is important to call 911 for help and to cool the person’s body down quickly.
Although our state is notorious for having outrageously hot temperatures in the summer months for most people making sure their AC is running efficiently and properly is not the first thing that comes to mind. If you live in Phoenix it’s an absolute must to have an efficiently running cooling system. Heat related illnesses and deaths can be prevented. If you are having issues or it may be time for a new air conditioning system, Norris Air is the company to call.
